The quintuple identity
Photon = graviton = gluon = phonon = magnon. There is one medium, and it has one disturbance, the stroke. Its type is fixed by six readings taken on its own terms: the medium it disturbs, the null pair of its grades, its rate measured on the spot, its action per cycle, its angular momentum per quantum and the share of its rate that circulates. None of them depends on where the stroke runs. A regime is geometry, and the five names are the stroke in five regimes: Einstein’s identification of gravity with geometry, carried to every carrier.
The record
What the five presentations hold in common
The central invariant reads one identity four ways:
A carrier is a disturbance of a medium at that medium’s speed. The chain gives one speed to every reading, the exchange rate of mass and energy, the propagation constant of light and the medium’s own stroke, and there is one medium for them to be disturbances of. So there is one carrier, and the five names are the stroke read in different density and geometry regimes (I-2). The paper proves that the stroke’s type is the same in every regime, which with I-2’s placement of the five names is the identity, and sets it against the record, which carries the stroke’s readings in every one of its regimes:
| What the record shows | The measurement | Where the derivation returns it |
|---|---|---|
| The gravitational and the electromagnetic stroke run at one rate | The gamma rays of GRB 170817A arrived 1.74 ± 0.05 s after the merger in GW170817: the two rates are equal within −3 × 10⁻¹⁵ and +7 × 10⁻¹⁶ | One rate in every reading; the field equations carry it to the geometry’s ripple |
| A circularly polarized stroke carries one quantum of angular momentum | The torque circularly polarized light exerts on a wave plate that reverses its hand agrees with ħ per quantum | 1/ω per unit energy about the run, (E/c) λ̄ = ħ per quantum, at every frequency |
| Spin one in a closed pattern’s region | The angular correlations of three-jet events at PETRA favour a spin-one gluon over a scalar one | The standing stroke keeps the type; the map to the correlations is to be derived |

The FDT reading
I-2 One carrier, 0.1d one rate, 0.1c two readings
The type of a carrier
The stroke equation is linear, so every disturbance it governs splits into open strokes of definite frequency, direction and hand. A carrier’s type is read on those components, on their own terms, with six entries:
Here F = E + cI₃B joins the stroke’s two grades, ET is the energy of one quantum times its period, and the share that circulates, u/c, is a strand’s kept time per unit of its rate, read on a component’s run (0.1d). Two presentations are one carrier when their types agree. The type is computed from the stroke’s local law and read where the stroke passes; nothing is identified by naming it. The frequency, the direction, the hand, the support, the boundary data and the density crossed are absent from the list on purpose: the hand labels a component as its direction does, and the rest are the regime, which is what the identity is about.
One medium, one rate, one quantum
The omnium’s two response coefficients make the two grades drive each other, and in a region crossed by no closed pattern every component obeys one equation with one rate. A component of either hand has a null pair of grades:
The chain gives the same rate to the quantum and the gravitational readings, and the field equations carry it too. Where the field is weak, Gμν = κTμν in harmonic gauge reads
so the adjustment of the geometry to a changing source, gravity’s ripple, runs at the stroke’s rate. Clocks and rulers are closed strokes, so every stroke measured on the spot runs at c, whatever any outside bookkeeping says (0.1d). Planck’s bridge gives every quantum ET = h.
The grades of a component of definite hand turn about its run. With its potential A, its spin density ε₀E × A is ±ε₀E₀²/ω along the run while its energy density is ε₀E₀², so it carries ±1/ω per unit energy about the run; a linearly polarized stroke, the sum of the two hands, carries none. Per quantum:
the momentum of one quantum times the radius λ̄ = c/ω of the cylinder on which its grades turn. The helix advances one wavelength per turn around a circumference of one wavelength, so it stands at π/4 at every frequency. The stroke runs its whole rate as translation, v = c, so v² + u² = c² leaves u = 0: it keeps no time. The type of every open stroke is therefore
with no frequency, amplitude, direction or hand anywhere in it.
One stroke in five regimes. Pick a regime. The photon runs straight at c, its grades turning on a helix of radius λ̄ = c/ω. In the graviton tab, gravity’s ripple and light leave one merger at one rate, as GW170817 and GRB 170817A did: the gamma rays arrived 1.74 s after the merger signal, over a run of about 130 million years. The gluon is two strokes running both ways inside a closed pattern’s own support; their sum stands with nodes at the walls, and the n-th mode has n times the energy of the first. The phonon is the stroke among clamps: it runs at c between them while the long wave crosses them at c/√(1 + μ/a). The magnon is the stroke through a helical density gradient, drawn with its twist precessing about the gradient’s axis, a turning that is to be derived. Change the frequency, the mode, the loading or the hand: the row of invariants never changes. The photon’s radius is drawn on a compressed scale, the phonon’s displacement is enlarged, and the merger, the support and the gradient are schematic.

A regime is geometry
Five kinds of regime act on the stroke, and each acts on the geometry of the mode and on the bookkeeper’s readings of it, never on the type.
A density gradient rescales a pattern’s clocks and rulers by the clock factor 𝔪, gμν ↦ 𝔪²gμν. The rescaling keeps d/t = c on the spot and the null cone, and in four dimensions it leaves the stroke’s equations as they are. A pattern’s clocks keep 𝔪 of the bookkeeper’s time and its rulers measure 𝔪 of his lengths, so the bookkeeper reads the frequency as 𝔪ω and the radius as λ̄/𝔪; ET = h, ħ per quantum and the angle π/4 stay.
A source’s exterior is exactly that clock factor times the optical geometry of generalized Snell’s law:
The stroke runs on the geodesics of the optical metric. Its run bends, by 1.75″ for a stroke grazing the photosphere, and a held reader far away sees its frequency lowered by N(xe)/N(xo), the reading 𝔪ω taken at both ends. At every height the stroke still carries h per cycle and ħ per quantum.
A closed pattern’s support holds the same omnium, so the stroke obeys the same local law inside it, with the support’s boundary data. Its modes stand, each the sum of two counter-running open strokes, cos kx cos ωt = ½[cos(kx − ωt) + cos(kx + ωt)]. The support decides which frequencies stand: between two walls the mode energies stand in the ratio En/E₁ = n, and in a closed pattern the confinement operator sets them, with cost mqc² = ħωq. The components are open strokes.
Clamps, the saturated cores of a vibrating volume, enter as boundary data: each core loads the line at its site. On a line of clamps with spacing a and loading μ, each component transverse to the line obeys
The clamps set the transport; between them the stroke runs at c. A transverse mode of definite hand carries 1/ω per unit energy about the line, ħ per quantum, whatever the loading. Mode geometry is set by the boundary conditions, not by the medium (P-2). The longitudinal branch, a compression of the packing along the line, carries no angular momentum about the line; its place in the identity is to be derived.
A helical density gradient is what a magnetic field is (P-5). The stroke runs through it at c on the spot, and its components keep the type; the gradient sets the turning of its twist about the gradient’s axis, the magnon’s precession, which is to be derived.
The carrier equivalence principle
No reading of a stroke on its own terms, neither its medium, the null pair of its grades, its rate on the spot, its action per cycle, its angular momentum per quantum, its kept time nor the angle of its helix, tells the regime it runs in. The regime is read in the geometry: in the bookkeeper’s frequencies and radii, in the bending of the run, in the frequencies a support admits, in the transport across clamps and in the turning in a gradient. A pattern carries no reading of the gradient it crosses, which is the extended equivalence principle; a stroke carries no reading of its regime.
What a regime changes. A pattern held near a source emits a stroke, and a pattern held at 50 Rs reads it. Move the emitter between the fold and the far field: the reader sees the frequency fall by N(xe)/N(xo), with N(x) = √(1 − Rs/r), and the helix’s radius grow by the inverse. The helix keeps its angle π/4, and the stroke keeps its rate c, its h per cycle and its ħ per quantum. Brass marks an emitter inside the seam at 2Rs, cobalt one beyond it. The radial axis is logarithmic.

Five names, one carrier
I-2 places the five names in their regimes. The photon is the stroke in a region crossed by no closed pattern, running straight at c and keeping no time. The graviton is the stroke in the gravitational regime; its place as the carrier of the geometry’s adjustment to a changing source, gravity’s ripple, is to be derived. The gluon is the stroke standing inside a closed pattern’s own region. The phonon is the medium’s stroke among the clamps of a vibrating volume, transverse to the line. The magnon is the stroke through a helical density gradient. Each keeps the type, so
and photon = graviton = gluon = phonon = magnon: one carrier, of spin one. Three readings of the regimes are to be derived: the graviton’s place as the carrier of gravity’s ripple, the longitudinal branch among clamps, and the turning of the twist in a helical gradient. The identity as derived rests on none of them.
Closed, the stroke is matter
In the bivector reading a strand’s state is w = v + uΣ, translation plus circulation, and the spinor flip 𝔣(w) = u + vΣ exchanges the two. An open stroke is all run, w = c, with u/c = 0. Closure is the flip of the run, 𝔣(c) = cΣ: a closed pattern circulates, u/c > 0, keeps time by circulating and carries its rest energy as the bivector grade. Closure is a change of type. No regime gives a component that property. A standing mode has no strand of its own: it is two counter-running components, each keeping no time, and its zero momentum and its cost ħωq belong to the pair together, read as the mode of the support it stands in. The braided closures of matter (I-5) are made of the stroke and stand outside the identity.
QM = EM = GR, one force
Read as carriers, the chain’s three readings are readings of the one stroke. The quantum reading Eq/mq = c² is the quantum ħω of every presentation and the cost of a standing mode. The electromagnetic reading 1/(ε₀μ₀) is the two responses that make the stroke and its twist in a helical gradient. The gravitational reading (ℓq/Tq)² = c² is clocks and rulers adjusting with the density they cross, the geometry’s ripple and the bending of the run. One carrier has one force law. With each body’s exterior input at the separation, αi = Rs,i/d, on two separate spherical supports:
Nothing is mediated: interactions are curvature plus geodesic motion (I-1, I-2).
Gravity’s ripple
The ripple’s waveform, its two transverse polarizations and the energy and angular momentum it carries are those the field equations return for the source (I-3), and FDT accepts them as measured. A symmetric trace-free tensor transverse to a run has two components, and a rotation by θ about the run turns them by 2θ: that two-fold turning is the rank of the tide that reads the ripple between neighbours (I-3a). A circularly polarized wave whose pattern turns by sθ is, in time, a rigid rotation at ω/s, and carries s/ω per unit energy about its run: 1/ω for the stroke, 2/ω for the ripple. On the axis of a binary turning at Ωorb the ripple, at ω = 2Ωorb, carries its 2/ω about its run, while a source of that order radiates no light along its axis.
The standard account quantizes that ratio as a second carrier of helicity two. FDT reads one carrier, whose quanta carry ħ about their run. Components at the ripple’s frequency carry at most 1/ω per unit energy, so no linear composition of the stroke carries the ripple; a bilinear one does. The symmetric trace-free square of a component at Ωorb turns at 2Ωorb = ω with rank two, and two quanta of one hand at Ωorb carry 2ħ in 2ħΩorb = ħω, Planck’s bridge kept. How the stroke’s quanta compose the ripple, the graviton’s place as its carrier, is to be derived.
The tests
Use 2 What would end each derived result
Each line below is the converse of a derived result: the measurement that would end it.
- T-1One rate. A measured difference between the rates of the gravitational and the electromagnetic stroke of one source, away from closed patterns, ends the one rate for the ripple. GW170817 holds them equal to parts in 10¹⁵.
- T-2One quantum. A circularly polarized stroke whose angular momentum per unit energy about its run differs from 1/ω, or per quantum from ħ, ends the spin result.
- T-3Spin one in every regime. A component of definite hand, in any regime, whose quanta carry other than ħ about its run ends the regime theorem; a scalar gluon would.
- T-4The factor of two. A stroke bending by other than twice the slow reading at leading order, γ ≠ 1, ends the exterior regime’s reading.
Six pieces sit outside the derivation and leave every result in it unchanged:
- D-01Colour. The gluon octet’s dynamics, the seat table derived from cone geometry, and the maps from a charge or a colour seat to a force input are to be derived (core O-6).
- D-02Spectra. The confinement operator, which fixes the frequencies a closed pattern’s support admits, is to be derived (core O-9).
- D-03The aperture. The stroke read across closed patterns themselves, which sets the transport of strokes through matter, is to be derived (core O-8).
- D-04The ripple’s strokes. The graviton’s place as the carrier of gravity’s ripple: how the stroke’s quanta compose the transverse trace-free adjustment of the geometry, bilinearly, is to be derived. Its target is the ripple’s 2/ω per unit energy about its run on a source’s axis.
- D-05The longitudinal branch. The compression of the packing along a line of clamps carries no angular momentum about the line; its place in the identity and its reading on the stroke, the trace of the deviation among clamps (I-3a), are to be derived.
- D-06The turning in a helical gradient. The turning of the stroke’s twist about a helical gradient’s axis, the magnon’s precession and its dispersion in an ordered support, and the one unit along the magnetization the record reads, are to be derived (P-5).

Standard reading
Each force is mediated by the exchange of its own carrier, virtual where the exchange is not observed.
FDT reading
There is one carrier and nothing is mediated: interactions are curvature plus geodesic motion (I-2).
Four interactions have four kinds of carrier, unified at a high energy.
One carrier from the outset: the stroke’s type contains no frequency, so there is nothing to unify at any energy (I-2).
The graviton is a spin-two quantum of the metric perturbation, a second carrier.
One carrier: the ripple is the geometry’s adjustment, its two-fold turning is the rank of the tide that reads it, and the geometry is carried by the stroke, with the ripple’s bilinear composition from the stroke’s quanta to be derived (I-3a, I-2).
The photon is the quantum of an independent electromagnetic field in an empty vacuum, with ε₀ and μ₀ constants of that vacuum.
The photon is the stroke in a region crossed by no closed pattern, and ε₀ and μ₀ are response coefficients of the omnium (0.1, 0.1d).
The phonon is a quasiparticle of the ions’ vibration, a different kind of excitation from light.
The phonon is the medium’s stroke among clamps: the saturated cores clamp and load the line, the interstitial omnium carries the stroke, and the clamps set the mode’s geometry and transport (P-2, P-3).
The magnon is a quantum of the precession of the electrons’ intrinsic spins.
The magnon is the stroke through a helical density gradient, which is what a magnetic field is; there are no intrinsic properties, and the turning is to be derived (P-5, I-5).
Gluons carry colour charge between quarks.
The gluon is the stroke standing inside a closed pattern’s own region, and colour is the SU(3) of the internal nodal surface of an n = 3 braid (I-5).
Convergence
Use 2 Same source, same data
For the same sources and data FDT returns the equal rates of the gravitational and electromagnetic strokes of GW170817, within the published bounds; the angular momentum ħ per quantum of circularly polarized light; the deflection of light with γ = 1; and the waveforms, polarizations, fluxes and angular momentum of gravitational radiation, with the curvature of general relativity unchanged (I-3). It reads the spin-one correlations of three-jet events, the spin flip of magnon scattering, the angular momentum of chiral and polarized phonons and the hybrid splittings of magnons, phonons and photons as the one carrier’s; the maps from the stroke to those numbers run through the pieces to be derived.
No divergence is claimed: the paper supplies what a carrier is, not a changed observable.
